Kauai World Challenge is a 34-mile coastal relay traversing Kauai’s wild and scenic southeast side. It is open to OC-1, OC-2, Surfski, and SUP competitors.

OC-1 and Surfski Paddlers can form 2- or 4-person teams, alternating legs at Kapaa Ballpark (race start), Hanamaulu Beach Park, Kalapaki Beach, Poipu Beach Park, and Salt Pond (finish line). OC-2 paddlers can form 4- or 8-person teams. SUP padders compete as individuals in a single leg from Poipu to Salt Pond.

May 10 4:00 PM HST: Race Check-in, Packet Pick up, and Pre-Race Dinner @ Niumalu Canoe Club in Kalapaki Bay.

May 11 8:00 AM HST: Race Start @ Kapaa Beach Park

- 3:00 PM HST - Awards Party @ Salt Pond Beach Park

Age Categories (Combined ages) 

OC-1: Under 40 (Open Division), 41-60, 61-80, 81-100, 101-120, 121-129, 130 plus.

OC-2: Under 160 and Over 160.

Category determined based on the sum of all ages for team members on race day.

Race Details

Race fee $100 per person. 4 person teams only $50 per person. Prices increase by $25 after May 1st.

We recommend all paddlers wear a PFD for the race. (They’re available for just $60 on Amazon).

There are two race starts. The first start is at 8:00am for all OC-1 wahine, OC-1 Kane +121, OC-1 mix, 4 person relay teams, and OC-2 wahine teams. The second start is at 8:30am for everyone else. If you are in the first start your canoe number with start with the number one. If you are in the second start your canoe number will start with the number two. 

The race begins at Kapa’a Beach Park. The first transition is at Hanamaulu Beach Park. Second transition is Kalapaki Bay. Third transition is Poipu Beach Park and the finish is at Salt Pond. 

SUP Course is 4th leg only Poipu Beach to Salt Pond start time 12:00PM $50 race fee
