Kauai World Challenge is a 34-mile coastal relay traversing Kauai’s wild and scenic southeast side. It is open to OC-1, OC-2, Surfski, and SUP competitors.
Surfski and OC Paddlers form 2-8 person teams, alternating on 4 legs starting at Kapaa, Hanamaulu, Kalipaki, and KOLOA LANDING (see update), and finishing with an awards party at Salt Pond. SUP padders compete individually in a single leg from Poipu to Salt Pond.
Race fee $100 per person. 4 person teams only $50 per person. Prices increase by $25 after May 1st.
We recommend all paddlers wear a PFD for the race. (They’re available for just $60 on Amazon).
There are two race starts. The first at 8 am for all OC-1 wahine, OC-1 Kane +121, OC-1 mix, 4 person relay teams, and OC-2 wahine teams. The second at 8:30am for everyone else. Racers in first start will be issued a canoe number beginning with a 1. Racers in second start will have canoe numbers beginning with a 2.
Race begins at Kapa’a Beach Park. The first transition is at Hanamaulu Beach Park. Second transition is Kalapaki Bay. Third transition is Poipu Beach Park and the finish is at Salt Pond.
In case of high surf at Poipu Beach Park, the alternate transition point will be Koloa Landing.

Age Categories (Combined ages)
OC-1: Under 40 (Open Division), 41-60, 61-80, 81-100, 101-120, 121-129, 130 plus.
OC-2: Under 160 and Over 160.
Category determined based on the sum of all ages for team members on race day.
